Lord Rama worshiped Goddess Durga for victory in his battle against the demon king Ravana. Today that ancient autumn ritual has grown into Bengal’s biggest festival — Durga Puja, celebrated as the homecoming of the Goddess with her four children.
This extravagant and amazing cultural carnival is celebrated in spectacular fashion throughout Bengal. Once hosted exclusively in the mansions of wealthy merchants, this extravagant Bengal carnival has transformed into a spectacular open-air art gallery. Today, it showcases months of creative effort, offering a grand fusion of devotion, stunning installations, endless feasting, and vibrant celebration.
UNESCO recognized this 5-day festival as the best example of “the public performance of religion and art.” The festivity starts even before the actual rituals do.

Afterward, we will return to the hotel for breakfast.
