7N/8D – Princely Murshidabad
Discover the historical and colonial wonders of Bengal. The region’s vibrant past comes to life through Nawabs, princes, grand palaces, quaint villages, and a diverse array of ancient temples, mosques, churches, and historic battlegrounds.
Day 1. Upon arrival in Kolkata you will be transferred to the jetty for embarkation. Post onboard lunch you will be taken on a tour of Kolkata. Evening enjoy cultural performance onboard.
Day 2. After breakfast, a panoramic tour of Kolkata’s heritage buildings; return to the ship and sail to Bandel. Lunch onboard. In the evening visit the Hooghly Imambara, a famous Shiya pilgrimage centre that provides housing for pilgrims as well as classrooms. We sail onward to Kalna. Overnight onboard.
Day 3. After breakfast ride e-rickshaws through the town of Kalna to witness the exquisite terracotta temples of the town. Return to the ship walking through the local vegetable and fresh fish market. Begin sail towards the shore-side village of Matiari, while having lunch onboard. Overnight onboard.
Day 4. Early today walk through the village to see and experience the craftsmen at work. These master craftsmen utilize recycled copper to create exquisite pots, platters, and more from their workshops in the village. Return to ship for breakfast and sail to Khushbagh. Lunch onboard. In the evening walk through farmland to visit the Mughal-style garden built by ruler of Bengal, Nawab Ali Wardi Khan. It houses the Nawab’s private mosque and the tomb of the last Nawab of Bengal Siraj-ud-Daula whom the British East India Company defeated at the Battle of Plassey. Overnight onboard.
Day 5. After breakfast explore the village of Baranagar, a lovely example of life in rural India. Visit the 18th-century terracotta temple, built by Rani Bhabani. Return to ship and sail to Murshidabad. Lunch onboard. Thereafter visit the Hazarduari Palace, a classic example of Neo-Classical architecture, and Katra Mosque with its distinctive minarets and uncanny history. Overnight onboard.
Day 6. After a restful morning, enjoying breakfast and observing the local life along the riverbanks, we arrive in Mayapur, the headquarters of the International Society of Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). Post lunch stroll in the pilgrim’s bazaar, meet Krishna followers, and visit the temple listening to the mystic stories of Krishna devotion. Overnight onboard.
Day 7. Today we sail to Chandernagore which was established as a French colony. Post breakfast explore the French colonial buildings along the promenade. Visit the former French governor’s residence featuring an exhibition of items that depict life during this period. Also visit the Sacred Heart Church which marks the beauty of French architecture. Return to the ship and continue our journey to Kolkata while enjoying lunch onboard. We arrive in Kolkata by evening while enjoying Indian classical dances on the sundeck. Overnight onboard.
Day 8. Following breakfast disembark the ship and transfer for your onward journey.
7N/8D – Artisans of Bengal
A themed cruise exploring the cultural heritage of Bengal along with different traditions of textile weaving and indigenous crafts.
Day 1. Arrive Kolkata in the morning and transfer to the jetty to embark the ship. Lunch onboard. Thereafter a panoramic tour of the well-preserved British colonial buildings in Dalhousie Square, and the Victoria Memorial. Overnight onboard.
Day 2. After breakfast, visit the very colourful Flower Market, where you can see artists creating a variety of garlands, ornaments, and other items made of flowers and leaves for temples, weddings, and other uses. Thereafter, visit Kumartuli, a traditional potters’ quarter renowned for its sculpting prowess. Return to the ship for lunch and begin sail upstream. Overnight onboard.
Day 3. We sail further upstream to Bandel while enjoying breakfast and lunch onboard. Post lunch we visit the Hooghly Imambara, a famous Shiya pilgrimage centre. Overnight onboard.
Day 4. After breakfast ride e-rickshaws through the town of Kalna to witness the exquisite terracotta temples of the town. Return to the ship walking through the local vegetable and fresh fish market. Overnight onboard.
Day 5. Today sail to Nabadwip while having breakfast and lunch. Upon arrival walk in the riverbank village known for its handloom weaving of cotton fabric, mainly saris and stoles/scarves, and other activities. Ride the country boat across the river to Mayapur, the headquarters of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). Stroll in the pilgrim’s bazaar, meet Krishna followers, and visit the temple, which is comparable in size to the Vatican. Overnight onboard.
Day 6. Post breakfast we visit the pretty village of Guptipara to witness pottery making and a group of beautiful terracotta temples while observing the grand palaces scattered around the village. Post lunch we get to the place where every home resonated the sound of handloom. We observe skilled weavers creating magic on their loom and crafting the most exquisite Bengal cotton fabrics with luxurious motifs. Overnight onboard.
Day 7. Enjoying breakfast onboard, sail to Chandernagore the erstwhile French colony to witness its French glory and architecture. Post lunch visit Serampore, once a Danish colony. Walk in the old quarters to see the Danish Tavern, St. Olav’s Church, and other Danish heritage monuments. Continue sail to Kolkata, arriving by the evening. Overnight onboard.
Day 8. Following breakfast disembark the ship and transfer for your onward journey.
5N/6D – Sundarbans Wonder
Day 1. Arrive Kolkata in the morning and transfer to the jetty for embarking the ship. Welcome onboard followed by safety briefing. Depending upon tide timings we sail towards Namkhana, the gateway of the Sundarbans National Park. Overnight onboard.
Day 2. A further sail early in the morning brings us to the fishing port of Namkhana. Post breakfast visit the Fishing Cove and walk in the local market. Return to ship and sail full day to Kaikhali on the Matla River in the Sundarbans. Overnight onboard.
Day 3. After breakfast enjoy a walk in the village of Kaikhali that gives an insight into the daily lives of the people living in this geographically difficult and economically under-developed zone. Sail further into the Sundarbans. Post lunch ride in local boats to visit the Nethidopani Watchtower and experience the spectacular nature of the surroundings. Apart from the elusive tiger, the region houses various wildlife species and a plethora of birds. We sail onward to Bali, an island village on the Bidyadhari River. Overnight onboard.
Day 4. After breakfast enjoy a creek cruise by local boats to visit the Dobanki Watchtower. It offers a canopy walk at an elevation of 20 feet from the ground and about half a kilometer in length. Post lunch spend the afternoon cruising further in the creeks by local boat to visit the Sudhanyakhali Watchtower that offers a panoramic view of the Sundarbans. Overnight onboard.
Day 5. This morning after breakfast enjoy a walk in the village of Bali and interact with the villagers engaged in creating handicrafts and visit a local home. Return to the ship and sail to Namkhana, enjoying lunch onboard. Overnight onboard.
Day 6. Today we sail back to Kolkata, disembark and onward to your next destination.
