Little Europe Tour

Colonial heritage day tour

A day tour to the diverse colonial heritage of European settlements takes the traveller back in history which has in turn shaped modern Bengal.

Serampore

Renowned as a prominent cotton and silk weaving hub during the 16th and 17th centuries, Serampore later attracted Danish traders in the mid-1700s who set up their own factories to manufacture textiles for export. The city is home to Asia’s very first degree-granting college and still preserves remnants of its Danish architecture today.

Bandel

Deriving its name from the Portuguese word for a ship’s mast, Bandel is best known for its rich Portuguese heritage and the iconic Bandel Church, the oldest in Bengal. The town’s skyline is further graced by the Hooghly Imambara, a magnificent Islamic prayer hall. Together, the Islamic architecture, Portuguese history, and tranquil riverside create a truly unique destination.

Chandannagar

Bengal’s most beautiful riverfront, the Chandannagar Strand, features historic ruins that tell the story of its French past. The town still holds onto its French heritage through monuments like the Dupleix Palace and the Sacred Heart Church.

Distinguished by their remarkable history and architectural legacy, these three cities stand unmatched.
